What are Eyelash Extensions?

 

Eyelash Extensions are single strands of synthetic hair that are grafted individually to one natural eyelash at a time. 

The new synthetic eyelash is permanently bonded (using a black medical grade adhesive) to the natural eyelash until it is at the end of its growth cycle and falls out naturally.

 

What should I expect during my procedure?

 

Application of eyelash extensions is a relaxing experience; your eyes are closed during the entire process and you should feel no pain or discomfort.

In fact the majority of my clients fall asleep half way in, it is that relaxing!

Lashes are applied individually, one extension to one natural lash at the base of the natural lash about 1mm from the skin.

There is NO skin contact meaning there is little chance of irritation even for sensitive eyes.

At the end of your service you can expect a thicker, fuller lashline with rich black colour and soft lashes curved and crafted to suit your face.

 

How long will it take?

 

The procedure can take anywhere between 60 to 180 minutes, depending on the set of lashes chosen.

This will also depend on the number of natural lashes you have, as all of our sets are based on a 1:1 ratio, meaning one extension per eyelash, so lash volume can play a role in the length of your appt. Most common is a 90 min appointment.

 

How many lashes will I get?

 

The expectation is that a full set of lashes should be at least 60 per eye.

Again your own natural volume often dictates this and will be discussed during your patch test & consultation.

 

Is a patch test really necissary?

 

Although allergies are very rare it is especially advisable to have one if you have sensitive eyes or have never had eyelash extensions before.

The consulation takes around 15-20mins wherein 5 to 10 lash extensions are applied on each eye, blended into the length of the natural lashes making them virtually unseen. We then asses your tolerance 24-48 hrs post test.
At the very least it gives us an opportunity to discuss your specific requirements and expectations before commiting to an actual full set. 

This way we have time to properly evaluate and explain your best options of:

• Curl 

• Style

• Suitable Length

• Suitable Thickness

How long do they last?

 

Your lashes are constantly falling out and regrowing usually without you noticing. 

Natural lashes last between 50-80 days before the cycle starts over. Some people have faster or slower cycles which will effect the timing of their follow-up appointment. On average we lose aprox 10 eyelashes per week.

What this means is your new eyelash extensions will look full for between 2-4 weeks; you will then need a refill to maintain fullness.
Refills every 3 weeks are most common. Note: Poor diet or illness and some medications can also alter the growth cycle temporarily.

 

How will they look and will I be able to feel them?

 

Wink & Glow eyelash extensions look and feel completely natural. A quality set of eyelash extensions should feel soft and comfortable to wear, causing no discomfort or trauma to the natural lashes.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

 

Please come to your appointment make up free or cleanse at least 4 hours prior to your appointment.

When cleansing your mascara before treatment use a water based remover as oil based products can interfere with the bond of the glue.

Do not perm lashes prior to the appointment.

Remove contact lenses.

With naturally blonde lashes it is advised that you have a lash tint at least 48hrs in advance.

 

How do I look after my new lashes?

 

At the end of your treatment you will be given an after care card and a brush to take home with you and use as needed.

You also have the option of purchasing our specially formulated eyelash extension shampoo designed for daily washing.

Some key points are:

 

• Avoid water contact for the first 24hrs.

This includes showering, swimming, saunas, facial steaming, tears and exercise.

After this time you can enjoy your extensions without altering your lifestyle.

 

After care post 24hrs:

• Use oil free make up remover or Wink & Glow Lash Shampoo every 1-2 days.

• Do not over comb your lash extensions - morning and night should suffice.

• No mascara is required.

• Lash curlers are no longer required either.

• Do not rub or pull & play with your eyelash extensions

• Try to avoid sleeping on your face or rubbing your eyes into your pillow.

 

Can I still wear mascara?

 

The good thing is that you won't need mascara! That is one of the many benefits of eyelash extensions.

They give a full, lengthened and very black appearance that looks like you are wearing mascara -  minus the clumps & fuss of removal each night.

If you feel you must wear mascara please ask your stylist for an eyelash extension approved water based mascara.

Tip: Only apply from mid way to the tips of your lashes to avoid clumping

*Never wear water proof mascara

Use of mascara may result in more regular refills. Special care must be taken when removing mascara.

 

How do I take them off?

 

You don't!

If for some reason you wish to remove the eyelash extensions please contact me to book in a 20min removal service.

This procedure is quick and painless ensuring your own lashes are completely unharmed and intact at the end.

Do not try and remove them yourself as you are highly likely to break your natural lashes in the process and cause unnecessary damage.

 

Do Eyelash Extensions damage your natural lashes and cause them to fall out?

No! 

If done correctly by a trained professional you can keep having refills for years to come.

 

Eyelash extensions DON'T wreak your lashes, poor lash application does.

 

One thing to look out for when choosing a lash stylist is price. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

With 'cheap' prices question; how long is the treatment time, will they consider using a blend of lengths, widths and curls when styling me and how many lashes per eye will I be given?

 

Promise of fast applications can lead to discomfort and serious damage to your natural lashes.

Your lashes should never feel tight, itchy, and painful, or feel like they are pulling or break your natural lashes.
